Artist: Kawase Hasui (1883-1957)
Title: Ishizue, Niigata
Date: 1934

Evocative evening scene of a lone figure who walks by a riverbank at dusk. We see a yellow moon rising in the far horizon; its reflection glimmers in the water, below. Willows line the riverbank (perhaps the Shinano River), and a parked cart and small empty boat also add to the solitary feeling. Hasui did not produce many chuban works. This design always lacks the publisher’s seal.
