Hamachôgashi. Dawn breaks along the riverbank, the sky a riot of colors. This work was produced in conjunction with “Evening Cool” by Ito Shinsui, and the series marks the first time that Hasui worked with a publisher other than Watanabe. This is a rare design, with very strong color; the colors are stronger than shown in Hotei. Only the first editions have the title at the bottom, as here. Provenance: From the personal collection of the Hasui scholar Hisao Shimizu. This exact print has been published in Shimizu’s 2007 Ota City Folk Museum catalog, page 26, number 16.
