Title: Slope at Senko Temple, Onomichi 尾之道千光寺の坂

Series: Selection of Scenes of Japan 日本風景選集  Date: 1922 大正十一年

View from a steeply descending path near Senkoji Temple during a snowstorm. The bright yellow circle of a monk’s parasol creates a focal point for this beautiful snowscape. Today the charming village buildings have been replaced by a small city of modern concrete homes and industry. Aside from the telephone pole, this scene could be from previous centuries and is a view now lost to development.  In the distance we can see Seto Inland Sea across the rooftops of the village of Onomichi in Hiroshima. Senkoji Temple is located on the middle slope of Mount Daiho, overlooking Onomichi Port. It was founded by Kobo Daishi in 806. Today it can be reached by cable car. With the limited edition seal, verso, reading 12/200. A scarce, pre-earthquake design.

Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. Some minor surface soil on left margin.
