Artist: Kawase Hasui 川瀬巴水 (1883-1957)
Title: Morning at Ao Marsh, Ura Heights 裏磐梯青沼の朝
Date: 1949
A country hut is glimpsed between trees in autumn colors and reflected in the lake below. Beyond the structure we see the Bandai-area mountains gleaming a bright orange at the top, perhaps from both the late rays of the sun as well as the trees changing colors faster towards the top of the mountain due to the colder temperatures there. The Ura Heights are now part of the Bandai-Asahi National Park, which was established just the year after this print was published. Urabandai is situated in Kitashiobara-Mura, in the north of Fukushima Prefecture, 800 m above sea level. The nearby Mount Bandai erupted in 1888, and here you can see reference to the event: https://egenolfgallery.com/products/kunichika-onoe-kikugoro-volcano-eruption-and-magic-lantern-slides?_pos=2&_sid=fdf2f748e&_ss=r&variant=33087294734418
