View from Kojaku no Iwaya (Peacock Cave) on the Oga Peninsula, which is today a part of the Oga Quasi National Park. This view from the inside is only accessible by boat, so Hasui must have boarded a watercraft to get this view. The Oga Peninsula is in Akita and faces west into the Sea of Japan. The way that the printers achieved these glossy wavelets in the water is truly exceptional. The only way to truly appreciate this design is when it is in completely unfaded condition, as here, as there is soft purple int he sky and soft green in the waves. This cave is also a breeding ground for bent-wing bats. This is also one of the very few Hasui designs where his signature and seal have been placed in the upper corner, rather than below. A remarkable scene, with two distant sailboats being the only touch of humanity. A scarce design in the first edition.
