The Kiko Temple seems to float above its surrounding pond, the background sky giving color with pink clouds. The scholar Hisao Shimizu loved these postwar scenes, as he observed that Hasui was simplifying the designs to their most essential compositional elements (personal communication). Kiko-ji Temple was founded in the eighth century, and it contains several Important Cultural Properties. The the appropriate Watanabe seal to make this a first edition.
