Narazaki sums it up perfectly: “Dark pine branches jut out in the left foreground, green trees are further removed on the right. The water’s surface and sky have been meticulously rendered.” Layers of overlapping textures, tonalities and textures make this serene view feel full and rich. For this work to be unfaded, as here, the purple in the clouds in the clouds near the horizon must be present. With the earliest Watanabe seal used during this period, right, used between 1924-1930, making this a first edition.
