Hasui himself wrote the following: “Lake Kugushi is situated between the Kawaraichi and Mikata stations on the Obama rail-line. This lake is connected to the sea by a small stretch of river, and the scene depicted here is the view from the river mouth. I was interested in elements such as the white storehouse, which faces the lake and the yellowish hue of the landscape in early autumn.”
