Hasui: Ushibori (Sold)
Artist: Kawase Hasui
Title: Ushibori
Date: 1930
The lonely snow scene of Ushibori, a river district in Ibaragi Prefecture is composed of a ferry crossing the river toward the ferry house on the other side of the river. The light from a ferry house shed warmth whereas the rest remains cold in blue and white. Hasui tries to bring out the scene by applying the effect of aizuri, blue-printed picture technique, which was used in Edo Period. He treats the sky with arazuri, a rough texture of printing, contrasting the smooth printing of the water surface. Ushibori appears in other two prints: Dusk at Ushibori (Ushibori no yûgure Narasaki Ks-11/Hasui#212) & Rain at Ushibori (ame no Ushibori Narasaki Ks-9/Hasui189)
