Highly finished preparatory drawing that may have been the final state. Right side of a triptych showing a samurai with unbound hair raising his sword towards unseen assailants at left. On the ground is a naginata and fallen arrows. Behind him is lush foliage. The face and hair have been done with great detail, and even some pigments of tan and red have been added. This is from the period where Yoshitoshi’s style was still very much that of his teacher Kuniyoshi.

Condition: Fair condition. Losses to right side of paper.
