Yoshitoshi: Drawing of a Japanese Warrior Diving Underwater (Sold)
Artist: Tsukioka Yoshitoshi
Title: Drawing of a Japanese Warrior Diving Underwater
Date: 1869/5
Preparatory drawing for an unpublished print. A Japanese warrior dives in the water with a sword in his mouth. The rock behind him seems to have tentacles, indicating it might be part of a sea creature. Roger Keyes notes that he had previously never seen works by Yoshitoshi dated between 5/1869 and 11/1869, and that this drawing is therefore very interesting.
