It is sunrise, and the city of Edo is just waking up. There is a subtle message of excitement, however, as the giant drum-tower with the white flags flying tells us that it is the day of the twice-yearly sumo tournament at the temple of Ekoin. We see a portion of the drum itself at top left. Mount Fuji rises a pure white in the distance, and boats ply the Sumida River, sailing towards their morning markets.
