Unlit except for a full moon, we see a farmer watering his horse on his way home from the fields. Nakanoshima is situated in southern Sapporo on the northern island of Hokkaidô. Tall poplar trees, for which Sapporo is known, soar in the darkness. Behind them the red-orange moon hangs deep and reflects on the water. With this incredibly evocative design, Hasui transports us, giving us an intimate glimpse at a long-lost place and time in his beloved countryside. With strong woodgrain in the sky. Mint first edition, with the Watanabe seal used between 1930 and 1942.
