The famous swordsman Tsukahara Bokuden seems to be sparring with the tengu king, who here has mostly human features but is dressed as a yamabushi. The yamabushi uses only a staff, while the young man is fighting with a sword. They may be in the tengu’s hidden mountain country, as we see a waterfall flowing in the misty distance. The staff is raised in front of the title cartouche, so the writing must flow around it.
