A retainer of the shogun restrains his rearing horse as he looks down upon a village. Probably the best design in this series, the horse has been depicted with western-style shading and the misty background has been effectively conveyed.This series follows the shogun’s procession from Edo to Tokyo in 1863. This is station Fujikawa, number thirty-seven on the Tokaido. Rare.
