Watanabe no Tsune approaches Rashomon gate on horseback during a heavy downpour. He carries a sign which says “Kinsei” (prohibited) to erect by the great gate. Later he indeed encounters the demon Ibaraki and proceeds to cut off her arm, a story which Yoshitoshi illustrates in many different designs. Stevenson considers the printing of the rain in this print “a tour de force”.
