From the series “Taiwan News”, this shows the Conquest of Bôtansha; Assault on the Stone Gate (Sekimon). The exotically depicted landscape shows that we are in a foreign locale, replete with savage natives who must be conquered with guns. The way the native peoples are depicted--primitive and practically sub-human--is repulsive. They seem to be in the midst of a brutal massacre by the “modern” Japanese forces.
