Urashima Tarô riding home an immortal tortoise from a visit to the Dragon King. We see the magical sea palace on the right, with the Dragon King next to his daughter Otohime and two attendants. His visit seemed to be three years, but when he returned to shore he found ot that 300 years had passed. The colors Yoshitoshi selected are muted, to match the poignancy of the moment. There is some mica applied to the waves and a textile texture given to Tarô’s upper garment.

Condition: Very good impression, color and condition. Some slight toning and minor discoloration in sky.
