Komurasaki lamenting at the grave of her lover Shirai Gompachi, who is seen in life at right amidst a rain of cherry blossoms. The gathering crows are not a sign of an impending happy ending. From the kabuki play “Hiyoku no cho yume no Yoshiwara” (Lover’s Nightmare in the Yoshiwara) about this famous 17th c. couple.
