Minamoto no Yoshihira was a fierce warrior who earned the name “Wicked Genta of Kamakura” as a teenager. He was captured by the enemy and executed beneath a waterfall. This print captures the moment that he then sprang into the air from death as the form of the Thunder God and kills his assailant by hurling a bolt of lightning at him, killing him. From the series “New Forms of Thirty-six Ghosts”.

This story dates from the 12th century wars between the Taira and the Minamoto clans.
