The larger-than-life warrior Minamoto no Tametomo lived in the twelfth century and was twice sent into exile by the emperor. His bow was so large it is said that it took three ordinary men to bend it. His presence is so imposing that in this scene he only needs to gesture at the anti-smallpox talisman with his right hand and give a fixed stare and the smallpox demons in the upper corner take flight.
