Artist: Yoshida Hiroshi (1876-1950) 吉田博
Title: Evening After Rain 雨後の夕
Date: 1926

Timeless sunset view of a single sailboat gliding on placid waters as dusk falls. We see lights reflecting against the far shore, and the near shore reflects a pink sunset. There are many subtle variations of lavender, blue and rose. Yoshida was the consummate perfectionist when it came to capturing the exact colors of the scenes that he experienced. This is from the Inland Sea series.  Hiroshi noted that there were many impressions needed from the same block to create [the special effects of] the mountains.  Provenance: Purchased in Japan in the 1940s by a member of the US Occupation forces and never framed.
