During the Sino-Japanese war (June 1894- Apr.1895) patriotic fervor swept the country, and ukiyo-e artists such as Kobayashi Kiyochika (1847-1915), Toshihide (1863-1925) and others were preoccupied by war topics. In the center the emperor of Korea is seated, top left is Ten-in-kun, pro-Japanese minister, bottom left a Korean official. For the Japanese side Major General Oshima on top right and an envoi Oshima on bottom right. The names of the men are wiritten in cartouches in blue and red. Cutting and pasting instructions are included.
