The Courtesan Kaoru of the Shin Kanaya on one knee reads a long letter. Her companion Eguchi from the same house turns right, pipe in hand, trailing her uchikake, with its superb plum-blossom pattern, in a sweeping curve. One of the best designs in this series. Provenance: Henri Vever.
