Title: Ferry at Yaguchi: the Moon in Autumn (Yaguchi no watashi:shûgetsu)
Series: Eight famous views from Jôruri drama (jôruri hakkei)
Date: ca. 1795

We see a man bursting through a wall with his sword, a ferry boat docked nearby. The Jôruri drama “Shinrei Yaguchi no watashi” tells a historical incident about the death of Nitta Yoshioki (1331-58) at Yaguchi on the Tamagawa River. The accompanying poem by Takane Tsuneyuki (Jôsetsu) seems to express a melancholic mood of the autumnal moon, referring to a ferry boat.
