A cuckoo has nabbed a small lizard and perches on a blooming mountain pear branch. Both are native to Japan, and the cuckoo was a culturally important bird in literature and folklore. The Japanese title may be translated “Wild Pear Flowers and Cuckoo (Late Spring)” {Yamanashi no hana ni kakkô (banshun}. This is from the first edition, with gold accents in the sky and luxurious printing. Number 14 from the series “Rakusan’s Bird and Flower Prints”.
