This view of the brilliant red main gate, Sangedatsumon, of Zojoji Temple is framed by two large conifers. Constructed in 1622, it is the oldest wooden building in Tokyo and the temple’s only original structure to survive WWII. This work is part of a portfolio of 15 prints that were published by the Japanese Print Association as a reminder of what was lost during the war, done by a number of prominent sosaku hanga artists. This work has been lightly hinged to a lovely green mat, which is included. Sealed: Gen.

Condition: Very good impression and color. Good condition. Foxing to margins and verso due to original mount. Some ink smudges in margin from the time of printing.
