Title: Watanabe no Tsune and the arm of the Demon Ibaraki
Date: 1864
Series: Modern Parodies of Genji 今様擬源氏 空蝉 渡辺綱

Utsusemi: Watanabe no Tsuna (Chapter Three). Interesting take on the famous story of Watanabe no Tsuna and the Demon Ibaraki. This is the part of the story where Ibaraki, having disguised herself as an old woman to see the severed arm in the box, has just grabbed the arm and flown away with it into the sky. Watanabe no Tsuna has been thrown backwards here, and has made a futile strike with his sword. Only the severed green arm of the demon is visible, disappearing into a swirling black vortex.

Condition: Excellent impression. Very good color and condition. Minor repaired wormage left margin and backing remnants, verso. With sparkling mica applied to the black cloud for special effect.
