Full-length portrait of a traditionally dressed beauty visiting a shrine in winter. She holds aloft a Japanese-style parasol and wears a black naga-haori (long coat) that contrasts beautifully with the snowy environment. She wears tall geta (wooden sandals) to keep her feet dry. The snow-laden pine tree and stone lantern help to define the environs. This is Shinsui’s only full-length portrait of a beauty set in an outdoor environment. With a limited edition seal verso , numbered 105/250.
