Title: View of the Ginza at Night

Evocative prewar night scene of a wide boulevard in the shopping district of Ginza. We see electric streetcars sharing the road with automobiles as utility  poles tower above the trees lining the sidewalk. Pedestrians walk along the inviting storefronts. This woodblock print was mounted in a dôjin zasshi, a privately issued art/literary magazine that was popular with sosaku hanga artists before World War II. The publication was called Kitsutsuki (Woodpecker), and only was issued in three volumes of editions of 100 each. The eminent artists on the editorial board included Onchi Koshiro and Hiratsuka Un’ichi. Very scarce design.
