The (perhaps fictional) warrior Saginoike cleans his massive battle ax in the river, the heads of three of its victims lying nearby on the riverbank. Saginoike was said to have taken seventeen enemy heads at the Battle of Minato River in 1336. His foot soldier looks on with admiration. The inset landscape cartouche is in the shape of a heron because the family name Saginoike means “heron pond”.

Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. Gorgeous woodgrain in sky and saturated colors.
