Title: Station Fukaya: Yuriwaka Daijin
Series: Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaidô Road

Yuriwaka Daijin plants his feet and lets an arrow fly from his enormous bow. He has been stranded on a desert island for so long that no one recognizes him, so this is his feat of strength that proves his identity. The two farmers looking on have fallen down in astonishment. Scholars consider it very likely that this story was based on Homer’s “Odyssey” as was recounted to the Japanese by Jesuit missionaries in the 17th century.
