Teranishi Kanshin, a ronin, is portrayed with an open fan. His kimono is patterned with paulawnia leaves and sprays. The title of this series echoes that of a play, Shôfuda tsuki kongen kusazuri, staged in February 1845. Due to the remaining influence of the Tenpô reforms, Kuniyoshi could not portray exactly the Kabuki actors. A poem by Gosô noya of Ise.

This series, “Men of Ready Money with True Labels Attached, Kuniyoshi Fashion”, features large boldly drawn half-length figures of otokodate dramatic characters against a grey ground with a poem above.
