Yotsuya Kaidan (The Story of Oiwa and Tamiya Iemon). On the left is Seki Sanjôrô as naosuke Gonbei; on the right is Bando Hikasaburô V as Sato Yomoshichi. In the center are Bandô Hikasaburô V as Oiwa on the flip-down sheet and Kataoka Nizaemon VII as Tamiya Iemon, who holds the door. This is the scene in the play where Iemon, while fishing on the Onbô canal, finds the door to which he has nailed the corpses of Oiwa and Kohei. The corpses come to life in this scene and reproach him. The hidden flip-down sheet has been very carefully cut, glued and positioned onto the print. Famous design of the most famous ghost story.
