Title: A Distant View of the Sumida River 隅田川之遠景.
Date: 1854
A Distant View of the Sumida River 隅田川之遠景. Three beauties relax during a vibrant spring day from their verandah overlooking the Sumida River. It is possible that the ladies have just returned from flower viewing and are now going to enjoy lunch, or perhaps they are getting ready to go out, as the beauty on the right panel seems to be tying her obi and tucking a packet of tissues into it. They have just freshened up with small towels, and we see a large checked cloth and two towels being laid out to dry on the balcony railing. We see three serving trays laid out, along with a tray of dishes, including what looks like a sea bream. The trays must be for the women themselves, as if they were professional women who were about to entertain a client, they would not be eating with him. Across the river are crowds viewing the blooming cherry blossoms; along the banks we see vendor booths adorned with red lanterns.
Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. Mint.
