Kôgyo was the adopted son of the great Meiji artist Yoshitoshi. He excelled at pictures of Noh drama and bird-and-flower prints. This work is very much in the Rimpa school style, with highly stylized and elegant design elements. The stream features silver-printed whirls and the banks feature prominent woodgrain.The flowers have blindprinted white petals.
