Sakurada Gate at the moat of Chiyoda Castle. We see a few modern, western-style buildings peeping up in the background of this classic scene that has otherwise changed little over the centuries since the construction of the Sakurada Gate in 1636. From the series Horibata hakkei (Eight Scenic Views Around the Moat [of Edo Castle}), which was discontinued after only two designs. Series title and print title are in the upper right margin. Artist’s name Hiratsuka Unichi is sealed in the lower left margin. Hiratsuka was a leading figure in the sosaku hanga movement.
