Kawachiya Restaurant at Yanagibashi in Ryogoku. A painting party seems to be in full swing, with patrons examining freshly made artworks. The kneeling lady at right holds a fan open, presumably just painted. Foreground are utensils for painting laid out, including a basin for washing brushes. We see how teahouses and restaurants are gathering places that offer far more than just meals. Here a waitress attends to the patrons, holding a teapot and seeming to listen to a request from a kneeling guest.
