“Dewa: Mogami River The Far View of Mt . Tsukiyama” (Dewa Mogamigawa Gassan Enbô).One of the most famous poems by Basho that appears in “Okuno hosomichi” is about the Mogami River. Mt.Gessan is the highest of the three mountains of Dewa.

Hiroshige did not go to Dewa to make this composition but it is very likely he received images through his friend Monk Kahô and publisher Konron-dô in Dewa (present Yamagata Prefecture).
