Commissioned by the famous Fujiya Hotel in the hot spring town of Hakone, this is “Winter” from the 4-print set of the four seasons. Here snow blankets the resort and surrounding mountains as 1940s automobiles make their way around the driveway as guests arrive. Although definitely from the first edition, this work must have left the printer’s workshop early, as it lacks the Watanabe publisher’s seal and the Hasui artist’s seal. This hotel was founded in 1878, and is still welcoming guests--its historic buildings still look remarkably the same as depicted here. 

Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. A few spots verso that are not seen from the front.
