This series has a set of 54 pictures of courtesans with komae insets of landscapes, titled “Comparing the Fifty-three Stations of Yoshiwara (mitate Yoshiwara 53 tsugi)” . The title of the series is carved out in white on a black rectangle. The courtesan Kichô sits in front of a koto instrument and a black lacquer box which contains koto nails. Koto and shamisen instrument playing, calligraphy, poem writing, and flower arrangement were practiced by high-class courtesans. Although the titles mentions the names of courtesans, the pictures are not actual portraits. Fujieda in Suruga Province is the 23rd station of the Tokaidô. Eisen depicts the small village and rice fields in Fujieda, which is famous for colored rice.
