Splashing through a beautiful lotus grove, Sanada Saemon-no-jô Yukimura holds his gun at the ready. The contrast between the lush background flowers and foliage and the intensity of his warrior focus is very interesting, and no doubt intentional. Rain falls in thin lines, and Yoshitoshi is experimenting with western-style chiarascuro on the face and body of Yukimura. From one of Yoshitoshi’s best midcareer series.

Condition: Excellent impression and color. Very good condition. Upper and lower margins trimmed almost to border.
