Title: Humorous Scenes of a Wrong Brothel Room and Noodle Seller Spill
Series: Comic Pictures of Famous Places amid the Civilization of Tokyo (Tokyo kaika kyôga meisho)
Date: 1881

Two humorous scenes; paired uncut chuban prints. Above we see a man with bare legs diving onto a room-dividing screen, which has come crashing down. There was a robe hanging on the screen, so perhaps he thought his lover was in the room. But in this case it is “A Client Gets the Wrong Room of a Brothel in Shinagawa.” We see a startled couple taking cover, left. The bottom scene is pure vaudeville; “Careless Mistake of a Noodle Vendor in Takanawa in Shiba”. We see a noodle vendor’s wares flying in midair, one of them landing squarely on the head of a pitiable woman who seems to be blind. A policeman at left has raised his lantern.
