Sakanoue no Karitamaro (728-86) draws back his bow, arrow in place and poised to shoot. Behind him is Fujiwara Kurajimaro fighting an opponent with his sword. This general helped to repress the Nara period revolt in 764 by Fujiwara no Nakamaro. An evergreen tree with strongly patterned bark leans over the scene, lending even more gravitas.
Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. Untrimmed and unbacked. Unusual to find with these completely untrimmed “extra” margins on the top and left. Dimensions: ôban 37.4 x 25.6 cm
