Yoshida: Komagatake (Sold)
Artist: Yoshida Hiroshi
Title: Komagatake
Date: 1925
“From the Summit of Komagatake.” Yoshida made expeditions to the Japanese Alps several times per year. He was an avid mountaineer and would bring canvas and paint to capture the scenery as he experienced it. Here he has captured the appearance and texture of clouds using woodblocks, perhaps one of the most difficult subjects to master in this medium. The only sign of humanity here is a small brown hut on a foreground peak, insignificant when compared to the majesty of the surrounding nature. Provenance: Yoshida Family.
