Earth, sea and sky combine in this view of sailboats returning to harbor at sunset. The sky is a blazing orange-yellow, with deeper blues at top and in the sea, and soft blue clouds hanging in the sky. A large pine tree frames our view, and the sail in the foreground as well as the pine tree are strongly cropped, bringing to mind the brilliance of Hiroshige. With the “Made in Japan” seal verso that indicates that this work was intended for export around 1930 from Japan.
