Title:  Mount Fuji as Seen from Mount Ashitaka 愛宕山麓 Summer Rain
Date: 1931

Ashitaka Sanroku, Aki: The Foothills of the Mountain range, Ashitakayama in Summer. Stunning oversized view of Mount Fuji rising above a rushing stream in the green glow of summer. A soft summer rain falls diagonally, covering the view in a finely printed grey curtain. Fuji-san itself is a grey and white and  the slopes of mountain conifers are grey due to the distance, and the foreground rocks have beautiful depth from being printed with the edge of the baren.  Fusui Gabo was one of the few publishers who experimented with prints of this size in the prewar period, as this size presented challenges when it came to finding blocks of sufficient size as well as generally being difficult to print. As it is difficult to store works of this size, most of them have been damaged or have been destroyed over time. A scarce design. It also was printed in a autumn version, which we also have for sale. With the hand-numbered limited edition number verso of 43/100.

Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition.
Dimensions: 52.5 x 36.3 cm
