Rimpa-style design that features pine, plum and bamboo within a roundel that is inset within a silver-gold mica ground. The grouping of Pine, Plum and Bamboo are known as the Three Friends of Winter, Sho chiku bai in Japanese, and often used as a theme of greeting cards for the New Year. This grouping is auspicious because these plants do not wither during the cold months of winter, but maintain their strength and beauty.
