“Our Scout Reconnoiters the Enemy Encampment near the Yalu River”. A lone officer has led his horse to an overlook, where he can see the faraway explosions of a battle. The moon peeks out between layered clouds and reflects upon the water. The work has such a peaceful feeling, with the evils of war seeming far in the distance. As often may be noted, Kiyochika’s horses seem to have more humanity than his people in these war scenes.
