Title: Night at Nihonbashi
Date: 1881

Night at Nihonbashi. Although the streetlights shine above Nihonbashi bridge, the feeling here is unsettling and ghostly. Rickshas ply the streets, along with a horse-drawn public carriage. The year after this print was created, trolley cars took over from the horses in the center of the bridge. It looks as though the familiar city has become a city of strangers, made more anonymous by the freshly installed lighting.

Condition: Very good impression, color and condition. Some trimming to margins. and light center fold.
